I’ve been in a bit of a creative rut lately. I don’t have any photo ideas and walking around to find stuff to shoot in our neighbourhood just seems too hard and fruitless. ‘But, Greg’, you’ll say, ‘it’s not about new locations; it’s about a different perspective!’ I know, I know. I don’t feel like looking for it.
‘OK. That’s too bad for you, Greg.’ And it is. So I can either sit here and complain to you in hopes that you’ll make it better, or I can try something new. Or old. Maybe I’ll try something old.
I’m trying drawing. Again. I have a formal education in art, but it’s been a little while since I’ve done anything with it. I mean, it helps with the photos and the composition, but the photography that I like to do is all studio anyway, so my drawing class did little to prepare me for all of that. But that’s neither here nor there. Drawing. That’s what I’m doing to try to get excited about art again. I’m hoping it’ll help me come up for ideas for photos, and I’ll probably need to take photos to get some drawings done. That’s the hope.
I’m starting another 365 project. With drawings. These are days 1 and 2. Day one went great; day two made me want to throw away all the art supplies I own. It’s a long road ahead, it seems. We’ll see. Wish me luck!
